An online video tutorial for how to build a PC can be seen below.

A recommended multimedia system to run the software well would include the components listed above.

A relatively fast and powerful CPU, RAM, GPU and HDD are necessary requirements to allow for the software to run without any slumps or crashes. A 600W power supply will be needed to allow for all of the computer components to run at optimal speed without any harm taken. The GPU takes up the most power in a computer system and should be supplied enough so that it can perform all of its tasks quickly.

A 1TB hard disk drive was recommended as after the installation of the operating system as well as additional software such as an internet browser and 123D Design there will need to be additional room for content creation. A CD-Drive was also recommended to install windows 7 via disc. However there are other ways to install windows such as by a USB flash drive.

A 24” monitor was added to the costing list so that the user can see what they are creating in the software at a screen size that will not provide too much strain on the users’ eyes. Furthermore, a mouse and keyboard was added to the costing table so that the user can input data into the software. This hardware was very cheap as a high-end keyboard and mouse is not needed for this field of work due to low latency not being a critical factor. However, very ergonomic devices are needed so the user does not get RSI or Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Lastly, the modem and Ethernet cable were added to the costing list, this is so that all of the required software can be downloaded from the internet as well as letting the operating system and programs have frequent updates from the internet to the latest version to allow for maximum optimisation. For these reasons the required multimedia system for this software to run smoothly for content creation will cost $1016

Collecting:

Collecting is the process by which data is captured or entered into a computer system including: deciding what data is required, how it is sourced and encoded for entry.

Collecting is the information process that involves deciding what to collect, locating it and collecting it. It involves more than simply entering data.
It involves four steps:

1. Defining the required data- Deciding what data is needed.
2. Identifying the source of the data- Where the data can be found.
3. Determining how data will be gathered- What tools will be required.
4. Gathering the data- Collecting and entering data into the information system.

123D Design collects the mouse patterns and button presses as well as keyboard strokes. The software then interprets them in a manner that utilises the tools and capabilities of 123D Design to create an effective multimedia model. The user defines what data is to be required, whether it is simply user input text or complex sketches. The user can use their hardware devices to change the data e.g. dimensions for a square. Once 123D Design has collected the data can then go through the information processes and be transformed into information which can then be exported and ready to be used for 3D printing.

  • 123D Design collects imported files e.g. SVG
  • 123D Design collects saved files
  • 123D Design collects previous examples from the Autodesk cloud
  • Mouse collects user input e.g. mouse buttons
  • Keyboard collects user input e.g. dimensions

Organising:

Organising is the process by which data is structured into a form appropriate for use by other information processes.

123D Design structures data such as keystrokes in appropriate form to be exported to a .stl file ready for printing. The user plays a large role in determining how to organise the data and how the information will be displayed. By using the softwares features and capabilities the user can manipulate the objects to suit their liking to be ready for the displaying process.

Some hardware that is involved within the organising process includes:

  • Motherboard arranges each hardware component into a interconnected network making all of the components work in cohesion, similar to a hub
  • 123D Design lets the user organise the 3D shapes turning them into models through other processes e.g. 2 cubes and a sphere

Analysing:

Analysing is the process by which data can be represented and summarised so that humans can better understand it. Non-models and simulations

For example if a user clicks on the cube tool and enters a value of 25mm x 25mm x 25mm then the software analyses the data and morphs the cube in real time to those given dimensions.

  • Modem and Router converts digital and analog signals (modulation)
  • On-board Sound Card converts digital and analog signals
  • 123D uses algorithms to allow the user to create scaled 3D shapes e.g. a perfect cube

Storing and Retrieving:

Storing and Retrieving is the two step process by which data or information can be saved and reloaded for other processing to take place.

  • HDD stores the data and information on a read/write disk, the file can then be accessed later on
  • 123D Design has features and capabilities that allows for the user to save data and information
  • RAM is volatile memory that helps temporarily store data that is being used by the CPU to increase speeds

Processing:

Processing is a method in which data can be manipulated in different ways to produce a new value or result.

  • CPU processes most of the computer functions such as running the operating system and other programs loaded into memory
  • GPU processes every visual image you see on the computer due to a large amount of pixels being shown a GPU has it’s own VRAM on-board
  • 123D Design processes functions such as filleting or chamfering a cube

Transmitting and Receiving:

Transmitting and Receiving is the process that transfers information and data within and between information systems.

  • Modem and Router uses protocols to communicate with LANs and WANs to transfer and receive data
  • Ethernet cable is used to transmit the modulated and demodulated data both ways
  • 123D Design has cloud functionality built in meaning that the projects can be saved on a storage medium far away without any loss of data

Displaying:

Displaying is the method by which information is output from the system to meet a purpose.

Design

Autodesk 123D Design is specifically designed to be displayed, as a modelling program information needs to be displayed accurately and clearly for views to easily interpret what the model is. 123D Design can be exports as a couple of file types however the main type is .stl. This file type is the most commonly used 3D printing file extension which is why this software application is to widely accepted for 3D printing. The models can also be synced to the Autodesk online cloud storage which it can be shared with many users of the program.

Some hardware that displays can be seen listed below.

Autodesk 123d Design Download

  • Monitor displays the software applications that the computer has open
  • 123D Design displays the objects in real-time for the user to edit
  • 123D Design displays the models in a common 3D printing file format .stl
  • 123 Design can publish the models to its online community
  • 123D Design can export the model to a printer to be printed in drawings and schematics
